Karl Andersson

Huskvarna / Sweden

Karl Andersson is a Swedish family business specialising in the production of office and contract furniture. The company's preferred raw material is wood, and it could not be otherwise, given the long tradition initiated in 1898 by founder Karl Andersson. Today the company is run by the family's fourth generation, which has maintained its original values, namely sustainability and respect for the environment through the production of long-lasting furniture with local materials. Karl Andersson's products are inspired by classic Scandinavian design. They are essential, functional and well-crafted. Working with established designers since World War II, the company has produced iconic pieces, some of which are displayed in the Nordiska Museet in Stockholm. The most famous is the Øresund collection of wardrobes, tables and chairs, designed by Danish architect Børge Mogensen, still in production today. For about twenty years, the company has also used steel, starting with the Trippo collection designed by Ulla Christiansson.

Karl Andersson collections for office and contract use

The Karl Andersson catalogue offers numerous solutions for the office and contract sector, including furnishings and three collections of coordinated display pieces. The Slope display system designed by Lasse Pettersson & Lennart Notman is suitable for presenting magazines, brochures and information material in offices and public facilities. They are simple oak or birch parallelepipeds with sloping bottoms, available in modules with 4 heights and widths that can be assembled in infinite combinations. Elements with felt bottoms or magnetic boards can be added to the basic modules, while a black or white elastic band can be attached to hold the materials in place. The Front collection is a complete system of fixed and free-standing displays for hotels, waiting rooms, conference rooms, museums, libraries, etc. The various modules come in natural oak, birch, stained oak and ash or lacquered in 8 trendy colours; they are available in different sizes, with glass, Plexiglas or wood fronts. The panels and displays are richly outfitted with notice boards, magnetic boards, invisible wheels and dividers. The Front Panel series includes panels, shelves, magazine racks, display cases, coat racks and flower boxes; the Front Free Standing series, with free-standing panels, has been added to the collection over time. The Ridå collection includes wall panels and free-standing displays made of a simple parallelepiped in natural oak and birch or lacquered in contemporary colours, with grey felt pockets to hold magazines, brochures and leaflets. The Ridå system allows various configurations with modules of different sizes and special elements like mirrors, notice boards and magnetic boards, or a self-supporting panel available in the frontal or double-sided version.

Karl Andersson bookcases and storage units

Karl Andersson's solutions for furnishing and decorating offices and public spaces include a wide range of tables and storage furniture. The 2K-SKÅP collection, designed by Peter Gest and Tony Almén, consists of a series of office storage furnishings. The collection's distinguishing features are the feet and handles in matt chromium-plated, or matt brushed steel, which add a decorative touch to the sideboards, cupboards and display cabinets in pleasant contrast to the finishes in birch, oak, walnut veneer or lacquer with a choice of 8 colours. The Cavetto collection of modular bookcases and storage units is characterised by solid wood cylindrical-shaped uprights to which laminated shelves are attached. The possible compositions are countless, thanks to the four heights of the uprights and the two widths of the panels; each shelf can be accessorised with rear and side panels, doors and drawers. Cavetto can be placed against a wall, positioned as a partition or used to create a room within a room. The Mrs Bill collection of sideboards and cupboards is distinguished by its unique handle, made by folding the upper corner of the panel forming the door. The Karl Andersson catalogue includes several collections of tables and coffee tables to meet every need. The design of the Bouquet table collection by Jesper Ståhl is particularly interesting; the legs, inspired by a bouquet of roses, form a captivating pattern giving the table extraordinary stability. Buff is a line of tables and coffee tables born from the desire to create a virtually indestructible object. Designer Joel Karlsson solved the problem by designing a softly shaped top in HI-MACS, a highly resistant mineral-based material. What makes these tables unique is the particular joint connecting the top to the legs, visible through a decorative notch in the top itself. Among the brand's 2020 releases, the Hygge lounge bench stands out for its unusual and elegant design. Designers Johan and Nina Kauppi created a simple seat in the shape of a circle resting on a solid wood base formed by a cross anchored to the legs. This stratagem allows the legs positioned on the exterior to become supports for various accessories, such as the backrest that divides the seat into two parts, the round or central table, plus the USB charger inserted into the seat's wood base.
