Branca Lisboa

Lisbona / Portugal

The Portuguese brand Branca specialises in the design and production of home furniture and contract solutions. The company is the brainchild of Portuguese designer Marco Sousa Santos, former promoter of the Proto Design editorial project and artistic director of the Experimenta Design Biennial. Some of his projects have been exhibited in such prestigious venues as the V&A in London, the MOMA Store in New York, the Milan Triennale and the Salon Du Meuble in Paris, contributing to the affirmation of Portuguese design. The collections of tables, chairs, sofas and armchairs result from the founder's creativity and a careful dialogue between design and craft. In line with the company's philosophy, production is carried out locally. Each piece is studied in every detail, from conception to the choice of materials, to execution by skilled artisans. Prized materials like solid wood and textiles from the best upholstery companies guarantee quality and durability that, combined with the careful study of function and ergonomics, place Branca products at the top of the line for furnishing public and residential spaces.

Branca Lisboa tables and chairs, craftsmanship and contemporary design

Branca tables and chairs are made of solid wood, combining traditional Portuguese artisanship with functional contemporary design. The Roda ash chairs resemble traditional trattoria chairs. Perfect for furnishing bars and restaurants, they are available with a natural finish or painted in white, black and red, or with a wooden base and painted seat and back, with or without upholstery. The collection also includes the Roda stool. With its solid oak frame assembled with wood joints and a bamboo fibre seat, the Barca deckchair is ideal for indoor and outdoor use. The Branca catalogue includes garden furniture suitable for indoor furnishings, like the Ria garden chair. A simple tubular painted metal frame in the trendiest colours supports a circular seat in solid chestnut, laminate or upholstered with Gabriel fabrics for indoor use.
Characterised by its extraordinary design, the Paper Chair is the result of Marco Sousa Santos' studies of the formal possibilities of a folded sheet of paper. The seat and backrest, made of steel sheeting, are supported on a thin metal sled frame with a rectangular cross-section. The Paper Chair is available in a lacquered version using RAL colours and as a lounge chair. With their solid wood structures and simple, elegant forms, the tables in the Branca catalogue channel the art of carpentry to perfection. The timeless and elegant Standard table is suitable for any setting. The solid oak frame and sloping legs with a square cross-section support a light top that creates a pleasant contrast with the base, especially in the black or white lacquered versions. The NĂvel coffee table is a small jewel of design and functionality. Made of solid oak or walnut, it has a practical dual-level top and is distinguished by its legs positioned at the centre of the top and not at the corners. The detail of the joint connecting the legs and top constitutes a singular decorative element.

Armchairs and sofas for public facilities and lounge areas

In addition to tables and chairs, Branca offers sofas and armchairs that furnish public lounge or reception areas in style. The Layer sofa has a classic "shell" in solid pine with foam padding. The unique feature of the Layer sofa and other pieces in the collection, like the sectional sofa and the footstool, is the chromatic variation of the seat cushions, upholstered in graduated colours. Sofo stands out for its solid oak frame, a reference to sofas of yesteryear reinterpreted in a contemporary key. The linear, light and elegant design is also reflected in the seat, back, and armrests made of simple square cushions. Gabriel's digitally-inspired latticework upholstery creates a pleasant meeting of past and present.
The Curva armchair is distinguished by its simplicity, elegant forms and comfortable seating whose linear solid beech frame supports the seat and backrest, incorporating the armrests in a single curved piece. Curva is available with a white or black lacquered finish for the bent plywood backrest. The Shell armchair, made entirely by hand, is an extraordinary example of virtuosity in design and execution. Inspired by the natural shape of the seashell, it has a body made of curved wooden slats resting on a unique three-legged base. Its ergonomic shape guarantees comfort along with the "sausage" cushions that can be removed or added at will. The Aya armchair is the result of Marco Sousa Santos' research into lightweight design, using the flexibility of wood. Slender and delicate, Aya comprises several pieces of oak or walnut with a thin section assembled to guarantee maximum solidity and resistance. It is perfect for waiting rooms, conference rooms and dining areas. ... More ... less
