Bover is a Spanish brand specializing in interior and exterior design lighting systems for the residential, office and contract sectors. Founder Joana Bover, with a background in Audiovisual Communication and Photography, began her career alongside architects and designers in the creation of film sets. Fascinated by lighting effects and games, she decided to realize her personal vision by founding the Bover company in Barcelona in 1996. The entrepreneur herself designs the first lamps, in which her stage designer past emerges in the design with a strong aesthetic impact. Fundamental is the quality of light, which for the designer is intimately connected to well-being and the creation of warm and welcoming environments. The warm lights, exquisite design, and quality craftsmanship of Bover lamps are the basis of the success of the Brand, which soon opens its doors to collaborations with established and emerging designers. Benedetta Tagliabue, Christophe Mathieu, Rubén Saldaña, to many others make an appearance in the Barcelona studio. Mediterranean and oriental inspirations alternate with contemporary suggestions, in a design whose common denominator is a distinctive and timeless style. Today Bover lamps illuminate prestigious private residences and hotels, offices and restaurants around the world, such as the Harumi Sushi & Bar in Phoenix, Arizona, or the Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa in Lanzarote, to name a few. In October 2024 Bover opened its new showroom in Atlanta, USA, along with two other brands of Spanish lighting excellence.
Bover interior lamps: functionality and timeless design
The Bover catalog is divided into indoor lighting and outdoor lamps. Browsing through the indoor catalog, a few collections with a strong aesthetic impact stand out, such as the Mos hanging lamp collection, designed by Joana Bover. The translucent opal glass shade is crossed by thin vertical lines inspired by Japanese rice paper lanterns. Overlapping discs of different diameters combine into a unique shape that strongly characterizes the space. The designer is also inspired by oriental lanterns in her Mei pendant lamps, made of pleated fabric, which sport a light and graceful shape. Joana Bover also uses wood for her creations, as in the famous Dome collection. Spectacular is the play of light generated by the Dome 90 pendant lamp, with its diameter of no less than 90 cm. Each lamp in the collection consists of dozens of wooden elements assembled together in weaves and joints made strictly by hand. Dome is also declined in versions with smaller dimensions, such as the Domita M 36 table lamp and the Domita S 20 hanging lamp. In addition to lamps, the Bover catalog includes the Skybell lighting system, design Estudi Manel Molina. The basic element is the Skybell Plus black painted aluminum lamp, characterized by an essential cone shape and declined in the Skybell Plus A/01 wall and Skybell Plus S/1L suspension versions. The different configurations range from the linear track layout of Skybell Linear, to the circular layout of Skybell Circular, to the custom geometries of Skybell Modular.
Bover's solutions for outdoor lighting
Bover's catalog for outdoor lighting offers solutions for a variety of needs, from terraces and gardens to light posts for pathways. The Garota collection is perhaps the most articulate and versatile, thanks to its countless declinations. The basic element is the Garota PF/01 Outdoor ceiling lamp, featuring a lampshade inspired by the shape of a sea urchin and made of woven synthetic fiber, as in the traditional wickerwork of the Mediterranean area. All lamps are available in brown or ivory. The collection includes several versions declined in different sizes: we can mention the Garota P/02 Outdoor floor lamp, the Garota P/01 Outdoor table lamp, or the striking Garota Catenary S 27 4L, with the various lamps suspended from a cable as if to form a garland. Designers Gonzalo Milà and Alex Fernández Camps also sign the Amphora outdoor floor lamp collection, also a tribute to Mediterranean culture, with their amphora-shaped shade and the tried-and-true synthetic fiber weave. The collection is declined in different sizes, from the Amphora model with a 31cm base and 47cm height to the generous volumes of Amphora 03, with its 89cm base x 137cm height. Not going unnoticed are the range of light posts from the Cornet collection, designed by Alex Fernández Camps. Made of polyurethane with a silver anodized metal finish, the bollards are available in three sizes, from the discreet Cornet B/27, only 26cm high, to the more flamboyant Cornet B/77, 77cm high. The special design of the bollard head, which develops into an overlapping wave shape, creates striking plays of light while remaining true to the brand's signature style.
