Banker Wire is an American company that produces woven and welded wire mesh for architectural and industrial applications. Founded by Charles Banker in Milwaukee in 1896 under the name C.I. Banker Wire & Iron Works, the company specialised in wrought iron and wire products for fire escapes, partitions and gratings. In 1965, with new owners, Banker Wire began its innovative journey, developing new processes to improve efficiency and product quality. Now in its 126th year, Banker Wire offers around 8,000 different wire mesh configurations, including rigid or flexible woven, welded and pre-cut meshes. The wide selection of high-quality products offers architects and designers functional design solutions for projects of all kinds, from kitchen cabinets to entire buildings. This variety is possible thanks to the company's relocation, in 2018, to its new headquarters in Mukwonago, Wisconsin, with ample space and state-of-the-art machinery specially designed by the brand's R&D department.

Materials, finishes and processing of Banker Wire meshes

The basis of Banker Wire products are wires used for the meshes, from those with a round cross-section, available in 19 sizes with diameters from 900µ to 9 mm, to those with flat and grooved square cross-sections. The certified raw metals are of the highest quality. Steel wires range from stainless steel to pre-galvanised, from weather-resistant CORTEN to Galfan®, steel coated with a zinc-aluminium alloy. Brass, bronze, copper and aluminium wires complete the assortment. Finishes provide countless decorative possibilities. They include plating that reproduces an antiqued and oxidised patina, like the L-62 square mesh and powder coating that allows the meshes to be available in a wide range of colours. The PVD steam painting process in a high-vacuum closed chamber is ideal for architectural applications and interior design. Finally, there are the US10A and US10B finishes for bronze, brass and copper, giving a darker or matt appearance to the metals, like the M22_28 mesh with double-strand square weave. The mesh is manufactured by a high-precision process in which raw wire is first bent at specific points to establish the intersection of warp and weft and then woven on a frame. This system results in a durable and mechanically resistant mesh. The Banker Wire catalogue also includes decorative welded meshes, available in multiple square and rectangular models that offer greater aesthetic impact than standard meshes.

Banker Wire solutions for architecture and interior design

Banker Wire offers traditional woven meshes with single or double square mesh and a wide range of more complex and decorative designs. The catalogue is divided into 4 types of mesh, each suitable for specific applications. The large and mid-fill meshes are perfect for railings and parapets in all areas - indoors and out – of private and public buildings, infrastructure like bridges and elevated walkways, for façade protection, like the M31Z-6 triple drop and rectangular mesh, or covering furniture and accessories, like the M33-5 woven square mesh and three flat wires. Theatrical effects can be achieved with the M33-2 mesh, composed of a medium weave with three flat grooved threads, and the S-4 net, characterised by alternating shiny rounded and matt faceted surfaces. The fine and small meshes are ideal for functional elements like parapets and partitions and decorative interior projects in residential, commercial, public and contract spaces. Available in combinations of different metals, like the IPZ-25 and DS-1 models, they combine strength and durability with refined aesthetics. ... More ... less
